Perfect solution to Solid waste management

We are team of talented Mathematicians offering analytical solutions to your solid waste management

About

This project was informed by the challenges most organizations in Kenya and all over the world face in attemp to curb solid waste management manase. Due to increased level of garbage, congestion of garbage in Nairobi County as observed in the streets of Nairobi County, has proved itself a threat to human health especially emerging diseases due to poor sanitary. Optimization of garbage collection based on operations research techniques has not yet been used in the county of Nairobi. In this project we shall discuss a detailed mathematical model that ensures efficient garbage collection system.

Why choose to Optimize the number of trucks

Life has become competitive and every organization strives to find better solutions to its solid was management system, by choosing us, your organization will benefit in the following ways;

  • 1 Minimize resources put in waste management

    These will help to reduce resource wastage which might be incurred as a result of poor solid management plan.

  • We will help your organization determine the optimum number of trucks required to be in use at any given time. This will minimise unnecessary movement of trucks and labour personnel, rather, they can be utilized in other areas of necessity hence increasing production of an organization.

  • We will provide with you a solution where you can predict the future of garbage management system at your place. This is majorly affected by the increased population, in which by projecting the population expected in future, number of trucks required can be easily prediced through our site.

Characteristics of solid wastes

From UNEP/NEMA’s (2003) determination found that Nairobi as one of the major cities in Africa, it has two main sources of solid wastes, that is organic waste (those generated from house hold) and inorganic waste (those produced from industries and roads). Organic waste contribute about 68% while inorganic waste 32%. Nairobi County solid waste management system is controlled by two major bodies. NEMA, City council of Nairobi and the private sector under the organization termed as Kenya private sector alliance (KPSA) which involves in collection and recycling of solid wastes. Nairobi solid wastes can be classified as follows;

Organic waste 68%
Inorganic wastes 32%

Services

The project sort to provide a solution by providing diverse services to its users basically based on two circumstances

Determination of fixed number of trucks

This service aims at determining optimum number of trucks without time variation. This applies in an area which is not heavily affected by traffic jam

Determination of number of trucks with time variation

This applies in those areas where heavy traffic jam is experienced. Instead of having garbage vehicles staying long on the road wasting fuel, you can reschedule time of convinience where there is no heavy traffic for exmple, by collecting garbage in 6hrs a day, we can determine the number of trucks required to get work done

Abstract

Garbage remains a major problem facing urban centers in developing countries. Increasing population levels, rapid economic growth and rise in community living standard increases rate of garbage disposal in Kenyan cities especially in Nairobi. Waste handling practices by residents and measure put in place for safe garbage collection and disposal are the major factors influencing sanitary of any area in any urban center in Kenya. Many ways of collecting garbage waste have been applied to curb this menace but the solution is yet to be realized as garbage congestion is still significant as seen in the streets of Nairobi County. There is need to adopt control measures based on operation. In this project I intented to formulate a mathematical model which entails determining the collection and removal functions that are solved analytically and simulated using MATLAB. The model was to determine optimum number of trucks required to minimize garbage congestion in Nairobi County and any other place across the world.

Contributors to this project

This project was effected from the project I undertook while at the university. In the project titled Mathematical model to determine optimum number of trucks to curb garbage collection menase was inteded to optimize the number of trucks used during garbage collection process based on population of any residential area.
